ABOUT THE ADJUSTABLE STEEL TRESTLES
Adjustable steel builder’s trestles—also known as bandstands—are designed to support scaffold boards or lightweight staging to create a temporary low-level working platform.
Each trestle can accommodate four standard 225 mm timber scaffold boards, creating a platform approximately 900 mm wide. The adjustable design allows the platform height to be selected for different tasks and working environments.
Three sizes are available, covering platform heights from approximately 0.51 to 1.67 metres. This makes them suitable for bricklaying, plastering, decorating, rendering and general building maintenance.
Trestles must always be positioned on firm, level ground and incorporated into a correctly assembled platform with safe access and any required edge protection.

Which trestle size do I need?
This depends on the required platform height:
• Size 1 adjusts from 0.51 to 0.71 metres.
• Size 2 adjusts from 0.76 to 1.17 metres.
• Size 3 adjusts from 1.05 to 1.67 metres.
Remember that these figures describe the platform height rather than your total working reach.
Are scaffold boards included?
No. Trestles and scaffold boards are hired separately. Build Compound can provide a complete combination based on the required platform length.
How many scaffold boards fit across each trestle?
Each trestle can accommodate four standard scaffold boards measuring 225 mm wide, creating a platform approximately 900 mm wide.
How far apart should the trestles be positioned?
Trestles must be positioned no more than 1.2 metres apart. Closer spacing may be required depending on the boards, loading and platform arrangement.
How many trestles will I need?
This depends on the overall platform length. The platform should be supported at both ends and at maximum 1.2-metre centres throughout its length.
What is the maximum load?
The trestles have a stated safe working load of up to 470 kg under the specified conditions. This includes the combined weight of workers, tools and materials and assumes the load is distributed correctly.

Can I mix different trestle sizes?
No. All trestles supporting the same platform should be the same size and adjusted to the same level. Improvised arrangements must not be used.
Can I stand directly on the trestles?
No. The trestles are designed to support a suitable board or staging platform. They must not be climbed or used as standalone access equipment.
Do I need guardrails?
Edge protection may be required depending on the platform height, task, duration and risk of a fall. A suitable work-at-height risk assessment must be completed before use.
Can I use trestles on uneven ground?
No. They must be positioned on firm, level and stable ground. They should not be packed up using loose bricks, blocks, timber offcuts or other improvised materials.
Can you deliver the trestles and boards?
Yes. Build Compound provides local delivery across Yorkshire, subject to location and availability.
What should I do if a trestle is bent or damaged?
Remove it from use immediately and contact Build Compound. Hired trestles must not be straightened, welded, modified or repaired by the hirer.
